Pharmacy resources for providers

Security Health Plan understands the importance of keeping providers up-to-date with information about medications. Here you will find our formulary, recent news about any drug recalls, a list of compounding pharmacies and important forms that you will need.

Security Health Plan formulary

Security Health Plan's formulary has been reviewed by physicians and pharmacists to ensure quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical care for all Security Health Plan members.

Please contact Security Health Plan if you have questions about how drugs are covered under a specific prescription benefit.

Introduction to the formulary

Prescription coverage is a valuable part of your patients' insurance benefits.  We are dedicated to providing your patients with access to effective and safe medications. Physicians and pharmacists review our formulary to ensure that quality, cost-effective drugs are available. Using the formulary list can help lower out-of-pocket drug costs.

Medications are assigned to tiers. Each tier has a different cost share depending on your coverage. Medications on Tier 1 are covered at the lowest cost share and will cost you the least. They include most generic medications. Tier 2 medications are preferred brands and select generics. Tier 3 medications are non-preferred brands and select generics. Tier 4 medications are specialty medications and some very high cost brands and generics for plans that include a specialty tier.

For members who currently have a 3-tier pharmacy benefit, the cost sharing for tier 3 and tier 4 prescriptions will be the current tier 3 copayment.

*Certain medications are not covered and are considered non-formulary (NF). A member may request a medical exception for a non-formulary prescription medication or medical supply. The exception request may be initiated by the member, or a provider acting on behalf of the member, in writing or by verbal request. For a copy of the formulary exception policy or to start a formulary exception request please contact the Pharmacy Services Department at the number listed below.
