Tobacco Cessation Coverage

Last Updated on August 28, 2018

Security Health Plan offers coverage for all FDA-approved tobacco cessation medications, including over-the-counter drugs, with a prescription authorization. FDA-approved medications include bupropion SR tablets, varenicline (Chantix®), nicotine patches, nicotine inhaler, nicotine nasal spray, nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges. Members will not be assessed copayments on these drugs and coverage may be allowed up to 180 days per calendar year. Members are required to obtain the generic versions, if available, to qualify for the “no copay” benefit. Prescriptions will be covered when they are processed at a network pharmacy. (100 percent coverage is provided to fully insured commercial/group plans. This does not apply to Medicare supplement plans due to government-defined restrictions. Advocare Part D plans have coverage with applicable copayments.)

Security Health Plan offers a Tobacco Free program to support members while they quit. Members can enroll in the program by calling 1-800-472-2363.
