What are metal tiers?

What are metals tiers? And why are they important?  Simply put, metal tiers are how health insurance companies categorize their plans. Each plan's out of pocket costs determine its tier.

Lowest monthly cost/highest cost when you need care

Bronze tier

Enroll in this plan if you want a lower monthly cost option to protect yourself in case of a medical emergency. Your monthly premium will be lower than any other metal tier plan but you'll  pay more out of pocket when you use health care.

Silver tier

This is the right choice for you if you qualify for "extra savings." If you don't qualify for the "extra savings" but want more of you routine care covered, then this is the choice for you if you are willing to pay a slightly higher monthly premium than the bronze tier plans.

High monthly premium/low costs when you need care

Gold tier

This is the right choice for you if you use a lot of health care, so long as you are willing to pay more each month. But you will have more of your health care costs covered when you receive care.

Lowest monthly premium/highest deductibles

Catastrophic tier

If you are under 30 this may be an affordable way to protect yourself from worst-case scenarios, like a serious injury or illness.

Security Health Plan is a Qualified Health Plan (QHP) issuer through the Federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace. Pediatric dental services, as required under the Affordable Care Act, are   not    included in this policy. Stand-alone dental plans are available for purchase with the Marketplace. Please contact Security Health Plan or the Federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace if you are interested in purchasing pediatric dental or stand-alone dental coverage.

For our Qualified Health Plans, Security Health Plan does not use quality measures, member experience measures or cost-related measures to select practitioners or hospitals.
