Depression

Depression can result in distress and disability. Use the following list to determine if you or someone you know is suffering from depression. Depression can be treated successfully with therapy and/or medication.

Have you been experiencing:

  • Persistent sad or “empty” mood
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in ordinary activities, including sex
  • Decreased energy, fatigue, being “slowed down”
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping)
  • Eating disturbances (loss of appetite and weight loss or gain)
  • Dfficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
  • Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
  • Irritability
  • Excessive crying
  • Chronic aches and pains that do not respond to treatment

If you answered “yes” to five or more symptoms, and they have lasted more than 2 weeks, you may be experiencing depression. Contact your health care provider or mental health professional for assistance.
